Sausage & Mash Clash Champion 2005...
Andrew Jones of Huddersfield triumphant in the Great British Bangers and Mash Clash.
It's official - some of the best bangers and mash in the country are cooked by Andrew Jones of Huddersfield .
As part of British Sausage Appreciation Week 2005, Andrew was crowned best bangers and mash cook in the North by Great British Battle Axe and sausage aficionado Christine Hamilton.
When it comes to the banger, the British are a passionate race. So, to finally put paid to regional squabbling over who dishes up the tastiest bangers and the fluffiest mash, Christine Hamilton has been touring the British Isles to judge the best of the best.
Organised by the British Sausage Appreciation Society, British Sausage Week is a celebration of great British Bangers and those who embrace them.
The week sees a frenzy of sausage worshipping activity in schools, restaurants, pubs, butchers and the homes of dedicated sausage connoisseurs.
Commenting on Andrew's unique twist on the classic dish, Christine said, “The standard of entries has been incredibly high but Andrew's dish stood out as the perfect marriage of delicious Cumberland sausages, with a sublime black pudding mash”.
On receiving the ultimate banger accolade for his Cumberland sausages served with a tangy black pudding mash, Andrew said, “I'm thrilled to have been crowned the best bangers and mash cook in the region. Hopefully, the rest of the country will now sit up and take note that Huddersfield boys are the undisputed sausage champs”.
Andrew will donate his winnings to The Forget-Me-Not Trust.
